3D Parts To Go is a rapid prototyping service bureau. We specialize in fused deposition modeling (FDM) prototypes fabricated with ABS plastic. An FDM model is built from an STL file created by your 3D CAD system. The STL files are then "printed" layer by layer until the 3D model is completed. 3D printing is an additive manufacturing process. A filament of ABS plastic is extruded through a heated nozzle and printed layer by layer to create a working 3D part/assembly or a prototype of a part/assembly that will be manufactured using some other process after design approvals have been agreed upon. Our FDM parts are acurate to +/-0.005" and each layer is 0.010" thick. 3D parts can be built in seven different colors: Black, White, Bright Red, Bright Green, Yellow, Dark Blue, and Steel Gray. All models are manufactured in a single solid color. FDM parts can be used as a finished part straight from the 3D printer. FDM parts can shave months, even years, off of the product development cyle as well as reduce product development costs by thousands to tens of thousands of dollars. Lowry Industries is an excellent, real-life, example of these savings. Charles Lowry has designed a revolutionary conseal and carry 45 caliber pistol. He modeled everything in 3D using AutoCAD Inventor. He visited a local machine shop experienced in manufacturing pistols to discuss the design. They estimated that he would make no less than six prototypes before acheiving the final working production model. Allowing three to four months for each prototype, the project would take two years (minimum). Each prototype would cost approximately $5,000 for a total investment of $30,000. The machine shop that he visited referred Charles to 3D Parts To Go. 3D Parts To Go printed every part of the Lowery Industries pistol in ABS plastic on a 3D printer in less that one week. Charles then made changes to the design based on constulant feedback and we re-printed those parts that changed. He now has a working (non-firing) 3D ABS model of his pistol. Charles and his machinist estimate that he has eliminated four of the six prototyping phases by using the rapid prototyping services of 3D Parts To Go. Charles is now ready to machine the first working metal working parts, ready to test fire. This process has cut his developement time in half, and saved him $20,000.
